What should be the role of our institutions of higher education? To promote good moral character? To bring an end to racism, sexism, economic oppression, and other social ills? To foster diversity and democracy and produce responsible citizens?



In Save the World On Your Own Time , Stanley Fish argues that, however laudable these goals might be, there is but one proper role for the academe in society: to advance bodies of knowledge and to equip students for doing the same.



When teachers offer themselves as moralists, political activists, or agents of social change rather than as credentialed experts in a particular subject and the methods used to analyze it, they abdicate their true purpose. And yet professors now routinely bring their political views into the classroom and seek to influence the political views of their students. Those who do this will often invoke academic freedom, but Fish argues that academic freedom, correctly understood, is the freedom to do the academic job, not the freedom to do any job that comes into the professor's mind.




He insists that a professor's only obligation is "to present the material in the syllabus and introduce students to state-of-the-art methods of analysis. Not to practice politics, but to study it; not to proselytize for or against religious doctrines, but to describe them; not to affirm or condemn Intelligent Design, but to explain what it is and analyze its appeal."




Given that hot-button issues such as Holocaust denial, free speech, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict are regularly debated in classrooms across the nation, Save the World On Your Own Time is certain to spark fresh debate-and to incense both liberals and conservatives-about the true purpose of higher education in America.

First about the school in question:

Howard University is a university located in Washington, D.C., USA. An historically black university, Howard was established in 1867 by congressional order and named for Oliver O. Howard. Howard University is the number one producer of African American Ph.D.s in the United States.

Remember what One Man's Kingdom said about blacks and feminism:

Eliminating Opportunity

On Wednesday, Howard University announced the immediate elimination of their men's varsity baseball and wrestling programs. (That leaves Howard with eight men's varsity teams, and eleven women's.)



In a statement to the press, Howard's athletic director, Sondra Norrell-Thomas, said the decision was "very difficult, but necessary," claiming: "At this time, we lack the facilities to support baseball and wrestling."




But few are buying that excuse. As Mike Moyer, executive director of the National Wrestling Coaches Association, says, "It is hard to believe that lack of practice/competition space can be the culprit, due to the fact that wrestling requires so little space to begin with. I have to believe that Howard University has a space on its campus that can accommodate a 42 x 42 foot wrestling mat."




Howard's own wrestling coach doesn't agree the school is being honest about his team's elimination, either. Wade Hughes. He tells the Washington Post Thursday morning, "Howard University would like to look at this as a non-Title IX issue, but from my perspective, it is a Title IX issue in gender equality."





Coach Hughes continues: "We've had a wrestling room for years and years and years, and I don't know what [Norrell-Thomas] means. All we need is a practice facility because we've had only one home match since I've been the head coach."




The pro-quota Washington Post notes that as of last year, women composed more than 60 percent of Howard's undergraduate student body but only 30 percent of its athletes. That's not a comfortable place for a school to be these days.




Still, Howard denies the accusation that they are playing gender/number games. Lawanza Spears, a spokeswoman for Howard University told NRO Wednesday night, "The decision was based solely on the lack of facilities needed to support the baseball and wrestling programs."




The timing of Howard's decision was significant: June marks the thirtieth anniversary of the passing of Title IX, and no school wants to be cast as the enemy when the full-blast celebrating and finger-pointing commences.



And Howard knows the pain of Title IX grief. In 1993, its head women's basketball coach sued the school for sex discrimination, because she was being paid less than then the men's coach.



A subsequent $2.4 million jury award for damages was the first of its kind, hailed by feminists.



(A judge later reduced the damages to $ 250,000.)




Of this week's Howard cuts, Mike Moyer says, "This appears to be further evidence of the carnage that has resulted from the application of gender quotas in intercollegiate sports." Moyer is getting a tad used to it, with more than 170 wrestling programs eliminated in recent years due to the Title IX number's game.




In her recent book, Tilting the Playing Field, author Jessica Gavora quotes Leo Kocher, University of Chicgo wrestling coach, explaining how the game works "Say there's a school that has equal numbers of boys and girls and it decides to offer 200 athletic opportunities. If they have 100 girls who want to play sports and they have 1,000 boys who want to play sports, the law says you must give 100 opportunities to those 100 girls and you must give 100 opportunities to those 1,000 boys. In the end, 100 percent of the girls are fully accommodated but only 10 percent of the boys are taken care of."




Still, you would think liberals would do a double take when they see what is happening. Howard is 86 percent black and prides itself on its focus on black students. But, as is now happening there, it is often black males, often on the lower end of the family-income scale, who are getting the shaft because of their schools' compliance with Title IX.



(This happened at Bowling Green State University this semester.)




As Mike Moyer points out, "The elimination of the traditional Olympic sports across the nation is having a devastating effect on the availability of college-scholarship opportunities for minorities."



Isn't that something liberals and self-appointed black leaders should care a bit about?

Is what's being discussed in this post from JJ's Garage:




Dr. Laura Berman is a sex therapist from the Chicago area and I've read many of her columns. She is the quintessential apologist for all women's vices and faults, and can usually be found dripping with a bleeding heart for the women's side of the story when it comes to gender issues and gender politics. While I know she will not admit it, if one reads enough of her columns, she displays the usual "men are naturally evil and women are naturally good" mentality.




Today's column is a perfect example of what I'm talking about:

She writes about Anu Solanki, the young married woman of Indian descent who faked her abduction to escape her marriage. I wrote about various stories similar to this one last week, and how there seems to be a trend among women to lie their way out of irresponsible and destructive behavior.



Dr. Berman gives a different opinion on why Mrs. Solanki ran away. She implies it was due to an abusive marriage:



Despite her husband's assertions to the police that their marriage was happy, it seems Solanki felt differently. Like many women in similar situations, she ran away. While her reasons for discontent are still a mystery, women often choose to run from an abusive marriage rather than face their partners' wrath. This is understandable, as statistics show that the most dangerous point of an abusive relationship is when a woman tries to leave.



Dr. Berman is entitled to her opinion as to why SOME women run away, but to imply Mrs. Solanski fled due to abuse is completely false. According to the Associated Press, Mrs. Solanki never claimed abuse as an issue for her escape. The AP reported:



Anu Solanki told authorities she never meant for people to think she'd drowned and simply wanted a clean break from her husband. She said she was not a victim of abuse, but regretted the marriage. She also apologized.



And according to the IndiaPost, a news organization that tracks news related to India and its people throughout the world,



There were no serious problems between them excepting a few squabbles that happen practically in all marriages, he said. Even Anu is believed to have confirmed Dignesh's version to the authorities stating that he was neither abusive nor cruel to her. She just wanted a break from the marriage as she was not feeling happy.



The Chicago Sun-Times, the same newspaper in which Dr. Berman appears (does she read the newspaper she writes for?), reported in an interview with the husband:


A day before she vanished, his wife told him she wanted to have a baby, he said. He now thinks it was a ruse to convince him nothing was wrong between them, he said.



For Dr. Berman to imply that Anu Solanki and other women predominatley fake their dissappearances due to abuse is immoral and unethical. Where is her research to back up this claim?



Why didn't Dr. Berman mention that Mrs. Solanski stated abuse was not an issue? That would have been the responsible thing to do.



Her assumption results in another unjustified attack on a good man. Mr. Solanki is now assumed in the public court of opinion to be a domestic abuser.




Dr. Berman displays she is the typical female apologist I've known her to be, and by doing so, tries to diminish the irresponsible behavior of Mrs. Solanki and women in similar situations.
She tries to manipulate the public opinion by generating a misappropriated feeling a sympathy for these women rather than responsibility, while at the same time generating suspicion and contempt for men.




But is there really a "trend" of women leaving relationships due to abuse and other issues. In her writing she lays heavy on the accusations that MEN, religion, and societal pressures are the components responsible for this "recent trend" in women's behavior.



Really?



Her are some of the most recent headlines concerning women who have lied to their families, husbands, and communities:

None of these situations concerned abuse, or other issues except bad decsions by the women themselves. So there really is no "trend" of abused women having to fake abductions in order to leave their husbands and families. It is just merely women taking an irresponsible approach towards towards trying to solve various problems in their lives.



But because Dr. Berman is a female apologist, she doesn't like to see women treated like adults (Re: Men) and have to take responsibility for their actions. Instead she chooses to enable them so that women never really learn how to maturely analyze and resolve serious issues in their lives. Dr. Berman's method assures that this behavior will happen again, and assures "trends" will develop because there are no consequences for those who women who engage in this behavior - only safety, compassion, and protection. She also helps place a bigger burden of suspicion and distrust on the men in these situations through the implication that women who fake their abductions are looking to escape abusive relationships.




My point: I feel most female sex therapist harbor sexist beliefs and attitudes towards men. As a man, I would be critical to accept their interpretation of situations and research. If you find some of their information useful, God bless you. But I think you will find, as I do, that most of them have only female interest at heart. They could care less about the well-being of men.
I think Dr. Berman makes that very clear.

A number for feminist (and a lot of women who probably don't know any better) often accuse MRM's, MGTOW Advocates, and father's issues activist of racism. Here's a post on the matter from Rob Case of One Man's Kingdom:

One of the themes most insincere amongst many feminist commentators is their claim of ownership of concern for gay men, black men and in fact any man other than the white one. This curious twist in their thinking can take the form of insults to MRA's that we want to gay-bash or assert racist division. Yet in reality, all of the sexist legislation they have vigorously pursued in their favour have no outs for men of colour or homosexual orientation.



The IMBRA laws that discriminate against American men, for example. The only determinant for scrutiny is being male - females are not subject to this violation of civil liberties. Black men, gay men, Chinese men, Indian men, white men all - equally rendered suspicious in the eyes of the state, unable to communicate with foreign women freely over the internet via dating agencies without first surrendering their police records and other personal information. Meanwhile American women suffer no such inconvenience and can go about their business unmolested.



Or in the laws that favour superior legal protection for women, there are no passes for being black or gay either. Simply being a man is liability enough to have one arrested and charged in any altercation in which a woman is involved, regardless of who provoked or who struck first - indeed being struck can be as dangerous for a man as striking.



I think it's time we called feminists on this particular species of rubbish, and made it clear and loud that the discrimination against men is so systemic and so ingrained, that MRAs consider all men as brothers, whatever their race or sexual persuasion. In the Western world, it is a man's sex that gives him more grief than any other way he might look at himself, and it is the only basis for discrimination allowable in law. Simply being male is the simplest, surest way for anyone to appear in the wrong half of nearly every single social indicator there is.




It continues to astonish me that this gaping, phenomenal void in reason - this massive omission of morality, this rent in judicial coherence, should continue to go on unremarked, unmentioned by the media, unquestioned by political representatives, unstudied by academia and unchallenged by so many who would otherwise purport to be concerned with the human condition.

I got an e-mail from someone named Heather not long ago. She says she reads my blog regularly because she finds it real and from the heart. Well, I can take a compliment, but at the core of it, isn't the MRA movement real and from the heart? Where else could it be from? It's about the conservation of everything male. That is very real. However, I really wonder how much of my blog, "Heather" really reads, because outside of her opening line dazzling me with compliments, the shaming language started. She asked me why I hate women? Why I was homophobic? Did I want to eventually get married. If I would ever get married with my outlook on women. She then states that men who usually hate women and gays are probably racist against minorities, and I quote, "most likely hates blacks, hispanics and every other shade other than white." About how she intimidates men like me because she is college educated and has a great career.





Well, i'm going to have to call you out on your bullshit Heather. I'm not homopobic. Nothing about homosexuals leaves me afraid. I'm definately not a racist towards anyone, and most definately am not racist towards minorities or hate blacks. If you actually read my blog like you claim, you would actually know that I am black. Do I hate women? I certainly don't, but where the hell have the respectable women gone? All that seems to be left are skanks, whores, golddiggers and entitlement princesses. What I don't like is what the vast majority of women in the western world have become. They are lecherous vipers coiled to strike. Be it in court for alimony, division of assets that are not theirs, child support and custody, to casual dating. These vipers view men like they are mice, that we are there to be devoured to fill their insatiable appetite. To be cast aside like trash. Men are nothing but wallets and sperm donors. That is essentially it. Women do not respect men. I read alot of newspapers because of the line of work i'm in, and it never ever fails. Every health article has to do with the welfare of women. If by chance an article is about the health of men, it will morph into how it affects women. I was reading an article about prostate cancer in older men, and somehow, someway the article turned into the lives of women living with men who have prostate cancer. The men dying from cancer became second fiddle to women in their lives. I have yet to come across an article about the trials and tribulations of men living with women with breast or ovarian cancer. Funny how that is. Men do not matter in this society







I can't speak for everyone in the MRA movement, but in a perfect world I would love to have a wife and raise a family, and all that good stuff, but when the divorce rate hovers at about 60%, I would be a fool not to be apprehensive. The environment in the western hemisphere is hostile to men and is not optimal for raising families. A wife should be a compliment to me, someone who wants to be with me, not take advantage of me. Women are more concerned about being competitive with men, rather than complimenting them.



They should not be shocked when they are treated like adversaries by men, rather than companions. They chose to delve into adversarial combat, so don't complain about it. Someone has to lose in combat, and in the end it won't be men. We have no biological clock, and we can cope with being alone. I have yet to meet a woman content at the future of being a childless, cat loving, spinster. I will get better with age, I will accumulate more assets, I will be desirable because of it. I won't go through menopause. I will have upward mobility socially. Women; you're just going to get old, lonely and sexually frustrated.

You see not all MRA's are white guys, and maybe it would help if the minority MRM's would speak out more often. Maybe this fear of being labled as a racist is one of the last hurdles left to overcome for those of you out there that may still be "on the fence" as to whether or not to join the movement..

The influnce feminism has crosses the color, economic, class barriers.


The reason why they link anti-feminism to racism is simple, to squash the debate from any possible opposition, as Davout says in his comments to the post above from One Man's Kingdom:

Feminists hitch race, sexual orientation and the environment to their bandwagon because it's a form of hedging bets: feminists hope that an attack on feminism will be considered tantamount to an attack on the other largely unrelated issues and vice versa. Besides, the relevant demographics also serve as recruiting grounds for feminists. However, hiding behind these invariably demonstrates feminism's inability to combat its critics. The way forward for MRAs is to take away the unconcerned bandwagons from feminists. Black men, who are exposed to more than their fair share of hardships, are definitely a constituency MRAs should actively consider advocating for.

I want you to get involved. If you don't want to set up your own blog then become a commenter. I'm sorry I don't allow open comments here but this blog would quickly become a spam repository if I did. However, there are other blogs that may have looser commenting policies. So if privacy is your concern then search around for blogs that have commenting policies closer to your needs and become a regular commenter on one of the blogs... But please do get involved and let your voices be heard and don't let the forces of totalitarianism behind feminism hinder your freedom of speech or deny you your legal rights...
